Hi Jen,
Thank you for your response, I am happy to join this community since I have been using sony products for a long time. My laptop is a VPCF117FX intel core i7 Q720 1.60 GHz running a 64bit Windows 10 (free upgrade from my previous Windows 7).
I would like to give you a quick history of what the issue is. I have always been wondering if my laptop was managing the heat properly, however I never updated Bios or other stuff and I just lived with it. A few months ago, I upgraded my OS to W10 and everything seemed to work fine. Anyhow, when I realized that there was a BIOS update, I thought the right thing to do is keeping my laptop up-to-date. I have a few questions that I hope I can get anwsers to:
Thank you very much, happy holidays,
Hi RedBer22,
Welcome to Sony Community!
It's not a good idea to upgrade the hard drive because upon replacing it, you might need to replace everything like the hard drive, memory, etc because they are all meant to work with each other. Plus, you might have issues with the drivers and software. We can't guarantee the outcome of the upgrade.
If you really want to upgrade the hard drive, we strongly suggest to seek help with the professional technician.
Hi Kheirkhah,
Welcome to Sony Community!
We're sorry to hear about this. The error 393 that you encountered is caused by modified RAID configuration. Kindly change the RAID configuration back to RAID 0 and then try recovery.
You may check how to do it on this link:

Hi Ace-09,
Welcome to Sony Community!
We're saddened to hear what happened. Was the laptop plugged directly into the main outlet when you were updating the BIOS? It looks like the system is corrupted. You may use the VAIO recovery disc. If you don't have one, we highly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/ to assist you with this issue.

Hi Aibenzal,
Thank you for the information. The model VPCF117FX has no other driver support but for Windows 7 operating system only. No driver support for Windows 10 operating system. Although updates for the existing drivers for Window 7 are available on the website wherein you can upgrade your drivers.
Below are the answers to your questions:
1. The reason that you can't install the updates is that it is for Windows 7 not for Windows 10 operating system. To update it, the laptop needs to be running on Windows 7.
2. Again, your laptop is running Windows 10 operating system thus no new driver nor update for this version. When you install the BIOS update for Windows 7, it might give u another problem.
3. Sony has already released the Windows 10 upgrade sometime in August 2017 for all the compatible models.
I hope the information above helps.

Jen

How about if my jack doesn't seem loose but still won't turn on? There is no lights on my laptop indicating that it's charging.
Okay, title is a little misleading, so please bear with me as I explain better.
I have a SONY Vaio Desktop PCV-RX465DS. The HD failed, so I am trying to replace it.
When I put the new HD in it says that BOOTMGR is missing.
Tried putting in the Windows ME disc, but it does not seem to be reading it. Swapped out the CD drive, thinking the other had gone bad, but no luck with that one either. Both drives gave me green lights, so I know there is power to them and the CD drives are listed as 1st in the boot starup, so it should be reading the ME disc first.
I have an older HD, which I installed to try and get things going, but this one will only start in SAFEMODE, and still can get it to read the CD first.
I'm ready to throw it out the window, but because it is the computer system I use (need) to run an embroidery machine, I need to get it working again.
Any help ?
Thanks,
Andrew
When will we expect updates for VIAO laptops?
I have svf15n18pgb model.
As this is an urgent & significant security problem for the Industry, I am looking for Sony to provide pro-active advise & action for its customers.
I m hving laptop sony vaio svf15212snb.
I want to update ram.
Kindly let me know maximum how much and RAM type it will support.
Whether it will require Windows re-installation after RAM upgradation?
VAIO Care version: 8.4.6.05111
Model name: SVE1511JFXW
Service Tag number:
Serial number:
Operating Systems: Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1
I received a notice to update my BIOS.
VAIO BIOS Update Tool 1.3.0.09290
Model Name: SVE1511JFXW
Current version: R0180E5
New version: R0220E5
I ran the update.
The update seems to be stuck.
It is not allowing me to shut down the PC.
When I try to shut down, Windows says:
(Waiting for) VAIO Update Control
Update programs are running.
Click “Cancel” to cancel the shutdown, logoff, a restart.
Is it okay to force a shutdown?
Note that this is NOT an operting system issue - it MUST be addressed by OEMs like Sony, and BIOS updates are mandatory - see discussion in other thread here:
That would be the Max total for both slots..using two 4GB memory one for each slot for max of 8GB
hi I try to use your link but it didn't work, so you can give me another link.
I have serious issue and I need to flash my laptop bios to high version, my current version bios is R1140Y8 and I need a higher version of that

Hello,
How do I re-install all the SONY's setting and drivers from 4 DVDs (Sony Recovery DVDs set) but NOT re-install the OS ?

Also, is there a way I can copy/paste all the contents from 4 DVDs then paste onto a flash drive and then use the flash drive instead of using the optical drive? (Because it seems to me, dvd #1 stuck at 22% for a long time, dvd#2 stuck at 46%, dvd#3 stuck at 88% ...
Thank you
