Hello there,

I have a Sony Vaio SVF14N13CXB Touchscreen laptop and am missing an "Unknown Device" driver shown in the Device Manager. The Hardware Id for this driver is ACPI\VEN_SNY&DEV_5001.

I just upgraded to Windows 10, 64-bit.

Would appreciate if I can have the download link to this driver, or any direction of how I can find it. Not very knowledgable when it comes to locating the correct drivers.

Thank you!!

Hi Tourtus,

Welcome to Sony Community!

We're sorry to hear about what happened to your laptop. How did you know that the windows is already corrupted, are your getting a prompt or an error message? The VAIO Recovery disc can't be downloaded anywhere, the only way to have one is either create your own recovery media disc (using the same laptop) or by purchasing one.

You may try again to do a full format on your laptop. Kindly follow the steps in the link below, https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/36806/c/65,66/kw/How%20to%20recover%20the%20computer%20outside%20windows/session/L3RpbWUvMTQyMzA3NjM4NC9zaWQvc2UyOUphZW0%3Dhttps://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/36806/c/65,66/kw/How%20to%20recover%20the%20computer%20outside%20windows/session/L3RpbWUvMTQyMzA3NjM4NC9zaWQvc2UyOUphZW0%3D

The link that you've provided here is not from Sony, so we can't guarantee that it works.

This is your Vaio's support page: https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=SVF14N13CXB

Go to Drivers & Software, select Windows 10 64-bit as operating system, then go down to System Components, download "Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device Patch" and install it.

Maybe you have to install "Sony® Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver" before installing the patch.

Every time the laptop boots up it says there was an error, then it says to reinstall windows, when I do that it just loops back to the boot up screen and then asks to install windows again. So I'm assuming windows got corrupted.

I'll try following the steps in the link and see how it goes.

System recovery for a PCG-7Y1L with Vista?

$

I have a Vaio PCG-7Y1L computer with Vista Home Premium. I purchased it at an estate sale, and I didn't get passwords, so I can only use the guest account.

I want to restore the computer to its factory settings. I assume there's a recovery partition on the disk, but I can't figure out how to get to it.

F11 and F12, the common triggers for system recovery, have no effect. F8 gets me to the start-up options menu, but there's no system recovery entry on it.

I found advice for a different Vaio model which said to press the ASSIST key with the power turned off, but as far as I can see this model has no such key.

Thank you. This failed the first time I tried it (the Edit Boot Options screen just loaded the Vista start screen), but I tried again, and it seems to be working. If everything goes well I'll come back to click Accept as Solution.

Sony Vaio Laptop Hard Drive Crash

$

I have a question concerning a laptop that was given to me by my father. It is a Sony Vaio model number SVE15124CXS.  The hard drive is dead.  I am looking at purchasing a replacement SSD drive for it.  When the hard drive crashed it was running Windows 8.1.  According to my father the computer originally had Windows 7 but prior to purchasing new the retailor upgraded it to Windows 8 before selling – father upgraded it to 8.1.

I have a bit of experience building my own computers but no experience with Windows 8 or 10 (or laptops).  I have no recovery disc and from my understanding the product key is embedded in the hardware.  I called the Sony helpline and they linked me to the 3rd party company that handles service / repairs for these computers.  I was told I could purchase a recovery disc for $76 (ouch).

With this said if I purchased a new hard drive and this recovery disc should I be in the clear getting this up and running? I have concerns considering this was supposedly Windows 7 before being changed to 8 by the retailer.  If I’m going to be spending that much on a recovery disc I would rather just go by Windows 7 or 10 and just skip 8 altogether.  I have a copy of XP that is not being used – could I use that?  I’m not 100% sure as I believe a Windows 8 product key may be embedded on the laptop preventing another operating system being loaded – needing official Sony OEM first.

Sorry for the rambling – any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

For more information, please refer to the following link regarding the upgrade project for Intel® HM55 Express Chipset.
http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/HM55_Express.html

I have an ASUS A52JK which also comes with Intel i5 430M CPU, which is shown in the link below:
https://www.asus.com/Notebooks/A52JK/

The same laptop also comes with other types of processor, which are:
1) Intel i5 430M/450M/460M/520M/540M CPU
2) Intel i3 330M/350M/370M CPU
3) Intel Pentium® Dual-Core P6000 CPU

I am thinking of upgrading the CPU of my laptop to Intel i7 940XM or i7 640M. I have checked the TDP and CPU ID for Intel i5 430M, 640M and Intel i7 940XM. The TDP for i7 940XM are higher, which is 55W while the TDP for Intel i5 430M and 640M is 35W. The CPU ID for Intel i5 430M is 20652, the CPU ID for Intel i7 540M is 20655 and the CPU ID for Intel i7 940XM is 106F1.

After reading the successful stories from the first link that I give above (and ignoring the unsuccessful stories :P ), I feel like I want to go for i7-940XM. If i7-940XM doesn't work, then I will try i7-640M (or lower). If the i7-940XM, works but have overheating problem, then I will try the i7-840QM (or lower).

Hi Arcadeforest,

Welcome to Sony Community!

Thank you for your message. The original Operating System of the model SVE15124CXS is Windows 8 - 64 bit. (We're not sure why you said it was Windows 7) . There should be no issues when you install the VAIO recovery disc to the new hard drive. Make sure that the hard drive has the same specifications as the original one and it should be a Standard Format (SF) not an Advance Format (AF).

If you're planning to upgrade to Windows 10, we suggest that you upgrade to Windows 8.1 first then proceed to Windows 10. Below are the links for your guidance:

Windows 8.1 Update Instructions

https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/support-info.pl?info_id=1379&mdl=SVE15124CXS

Windows 10 Upgrade Instructions

https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/support-info.pl?info_id=1611&mdl=SVE15124CXS

On your XP installer, you can't use it to this unit because there is no driver support for this operating system.

Jen

I also have the same problem until now. I decided to stick to Windows 8 after many attempts of upgrading it to Windows 10. I already disabled the automatic update just to get rid of it and yet is still shows during start up. And it runs up to 5 minutes or more showing Vaio Update (OS Upgrade Mode) and Vaio Update (OS Upgrade Mode)(Not Responding) alternately. I have Vaio laptop Model SVS131C1DW. Hope Sony Support can help us fix it.

Hello, I have Sony Vaio SVF1521A4E and wont to reinstall the recovery BIOS because I installed wrong BIOS update from other Sony Vaio so the laptop will not start is just on and off every few sec, I did everything with trying to recovery Bios but no luck. Sure, I used wincrisis and its going fine but when inserting the USB 4GB the laptop won’t read the BIOS.

My question is there any special name for BIOS its original name R0250DA.ROM and changed to BIOS.WPS to let wincrisis works. But no luck at the laptop won’t read it I test all this buttons  FN + B, FN + R, FN + ESC, WIN + B, Win + R, WIN + ESC!!!

I tried everything from here!

Please if anyone know the solution?
